Regular Meetings
What goes on in a city council meeting?
City council meetings are when the city conducts its business.
That is the only time decisions may be made. All decisions must
be made in open session. An agenda is set a few days before the
meeting and sent to the newspaper and council members in advance.
The latest agenda is also available on
this website.
Who may attend?
The mayor, city council members, city clerk, city attorney and
the utilities supervisor are the regular participants. City council
meetings are open to the public, anyone may attend.
What are the meeting dates?
City council meetings are held the first and third Mondays each
month unless a holiday falls on that day. In that case, the meeting
is held the next day (Tuesday).
What time do the meetings start?
Meetings start at 7:00 PM
Where does the city council meet?
Meetings are held in the city council meeting room in the Municipal Building at 220 1/2 Broadway.
What if I want to address the city council?
It is best to call the city clerk and be put on the agenda. However,
you may also attend the meeting as an unscheduled visitor. On
some occasions, especially when several people are addressing
the same issue, the time a person as to address the council may
be limited so everyone will have a chance to be heard.
Special Meetings
What is a special meeting?
Sometimes, it is necessary to hold a special meeting to take
action on something that can't wait until the next meeting. Other
times, there may be business that needs to be addressed that
would take too much time for a regularly scheduled meeting.
Is a special meeting a way to do something
in secret?
No, special meetings are open to the public and can be held only
with public notice. That means the newspaper (and anyone else
that has requested to be informed about special meetings) must
receive notice of the meeting in advance.
